  15. in New York City. Delacorte parlayed an initial investment of
  16. $10,000 into a publishing empire, selling everything from pulp
  17. romance magazines to mysteries and comic books featuring Bugs
  18. Bunny and all the Walt Disney characters. Among the authors
  19. published in Delacorte hard-cover editions and Dell paperbacks
  20. were Kurt Vonnegut, James Jones, Irwin Shaw and Danielle Steel.
  21. Delacorte donated millions of dollars to build fountains,
  22. theaters, statues and schools in New York City that bear his
  23. name.
